Why did you choose the yoga80 200-Hour “Expand Your Practice” Teacher Training?
I had only been practicing a couple years when I signed up for the Summer 2013 Teacher training. I was curious about the anatomical, philosophical, historical and other such aspects of yoga. I sensed that to really expand my personal practice I needed to better understand yoga on a deeper level…deeper than simply practicing in class regularly.
How has the experience of participating in yoga80 Teacher Training impacted your life?
I’ve worked out all my life with weight training, jogging, swimming, military fitness programs and other forms of cardiovascular exercise. No form of physical training has given me what yoga has given me. My balance and flexibility and physical/mental well-being and sense of gratitude (just to name of few) have all been sharpened and deepened in truly profound ways.
Are you a yoga80 Instructor and if so, how has teaching affected your yoga practice?
I’ve had the opportunity to teach regular classes as well as serving as a substitute. With the privilege to teach comes the responsibility to stay physically fit and sharp. I find myself paying more attention to fine tuning my personal practice as well as focusing more on exercise, rest and nutrition. Teachers are held to a higher technical and physical fitness standard at yoga80 because of student-customer expectations.
Tell us about your “Glory” moment from yoga80 Teacher Training.
Because my teacher training cohort took place during the summer, Reegan moved several of our weekend sessions to the beach. On one such beach session day I happened to wear a new neon yellow yoga shirt, and coincidentally Reegan wore a new neon yellow bikini to the beach. Of course we posed together and somebody posted the picture on Facebook with the title “Dream Team”. Even though I’m easily old enough to be Reegan’s Father, the photo turned out “glorious” and quite flattering for both of us. I think we both would credit yoga for the physical health and vitality we enjoy today.
